Missing a leakage test might be expensive
Failure to carry out the mandatory leakage test can result in a heavy fine, so it's worth taking the rules seriously to avoid unpleasant surprises. What are the possible fines for failing a leakage test?
During a leakage test, technicians determine and document the extent of leakage of refrigerants used in refrigeration and air conditioning equipment. If the leakage rate of refrigerants in the equipment exceeds the maximum allowable value, the owner is required to take immediate action to correct the problem. If the leakage rate is acceptable, the technicians will issue a valid leakage test report and record the results in the national online register system.
Following the rules for leakage testing is not only a moral obligation, but also a money-saving tactic. Failure to do so will result in a heavy penalty for the owner and could put them in an uncomfortable situation that could have been prevented.
What is the fine for failing to carry out a leakage test?
The Climate Protection Authority also carries out unannounced on-site and remote inspections. If they find that the operator of the equipment does not have a valid leakage test report, they will impose a fine.
The amount of the climate protection fine that may be imposed by the authority is HUF 1,000 for each 1 tonne of carbon dioxide equivalent of the nominal F-Gas charge of the installation, but not more than HUF 500,000 per installation, and HUF 1,000 for each 1 tonne of CO2 equivalent of the nominal ORLA charge of the cooling circuit, but not more than HUF 500,000 per refrigeration circuit.
The fine might be several million HUF, so it is not worth taking the risk, as the cost of the leakage test is a fraction of the expected fine.
